Lighting is one of the central elements of room design and is key to nailing your desired aesthetic.
Have you ever walked into a room and stood in awe of someone’s canned lights?
“Wow, Sara! Who did your recessed lighting, it is just so fabulous!”
I am going to go out on a limb here and say… probably not.
In contrast, when you enter a well-designed space that has character, you remember the lighting. It makes the other elements in the room really shine. People notice a striking chandelier, pretty sconces and interesting pendant lights.
Even if you prefer less color, lighting can be sophisticated and bring a little drama to a more neutral palette.
Like color, but too afraid to wallpaper a whole room or paint it a bold color? Lighting is a great way to add a pop of color without going “too bold.”
Above I selected a fun variety of lighting for chandeliers and pendants. I will do another article on lamps, sconces and outdoor lighting soon!

I even found this amazing Caitlin Wilson “look alike” for absolute STEAL!
THE CEILING FAN
Living in Louisiana, where it is hot nearly 9 months out of the year, I must address the elephant in the room: the practical, but ever unattractive ceiling fan.
If you’ve ever had your AC go out mid-summer, you would thank your husband profusely for steadfastly refusing to let your decorator get rid of all the fans.
Great news, I have a solution for you. I am happy to report that recently ceiling fans have come a long way and are much more attractive than in years past.
Here is a client favorite! It is sleek, due to its acrylic blades, but not too “flashy”
And this one looks like a light fixture, but has a hidden fan.
Whatever you choose, make lighting a key component of your overall design and you won’t be disappointed!
If you would like to know the details on all the pictured lighting and fans, I have included links HERE on my website.
